Skoda Auto India’s much-anticipated compact SUV, the Kylaq, has begun marking a significant step in the brand's strategy to strengthen its foothold in the Indian automotive market.
Positioned in the competitive sub-4-metre SUV segment, the Kylaq blends global engineering with insights drawn from Indian consumers. With its modern design, thoughtful features, and a value-driven price tag starting at INR 7.89 lakh, the Kylaq promises to redefine the standards for this category.
The Spark Behind Kylaq
Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Skoda Auto India, reiterates that the Kylaq is not just another SUV—it is a symbol of Skoda’s customer-centric innovation. “Indian customers expect vehicles that deliver on features, practicality, and style without compromising affordability. The Kylaq is our response to this demand,” said Janeba. The vehicle is poised to cater to both Skoda loyalists and new customers, many of whom are drawn to the brand’s reputation for quality, performance, and style.

Blending Indian Insights With European Design
Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform that also underpins the Kushaq, the Kylaq has been tailored specifically for the Indian market. Skoda’s design and engineering teams spent weeks immersing themselves in Indian culture, studying customer needs, and observing design sensibilities. This meticulous research is reflected in every detail of the Kylaq, from its robust build to its clever storage options and segment-specific features.
The exterior design showcases Skoda’s modern European 'Solid' design language, highlighted by its distinctive split headlight setup with LED DRLs and turn indicators. Practical elements, such as unpainted bumpers and rugged cladding, balance aesthetics with durability. The shark-fin antenna, roof rails, and 17-inch alloy wheels add to its premium appeal.
Overcoming Challenges
Creating a value-packed compact SUV posed several challenges, but Skoda tackled them head-on through smart engineering and collaboration between its European and Indian teams. The result is a vehicle that not only meets Indian consumer expectations but does so without compromising on quality. Janeba emphasised that rigorous testing, validation, and a modular platform allowed Skoda to strike the perfect balance between affordability and premium features.

A Premium Interior Packed With Features
Step inside the Kylaq, and you’re greeted with a cabin that exudes sophistication and comfort. The top-end model boasts a high-quality dashboard, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Skoda has gone a step further by offering segment-first features like six-way power-adjustable seats for both the driver and co-passenger, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting.
Rear passengers are not left behind either. With ample headroom, legroom, and thoughtful touches like Isofix mounts, three adjustable headrests, and a centre armrest with cup holders, the vehicle ensures a comfortable ride for all. The 60:40 split rear seats and a spacious 446-litre boot add to its practicality, making it a versatile choice for families and urban explorers alike.
Performance
Under the hood, the Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine, paired with manual and automatic transmission options. The engine delivers a balance of power and efficiency, making it ideal for both city commutes and highway drives. With a ground clearance of 189 mm, the Kylaq is well-equipped to handle Indian road conditions.
Meeting Demand
To meet the anticipated demand, Skoda has outlined an ambitious production roadmap. Starting with 1,500 units in January, the company plans to ramp up production to 4,000 cars in February and 7,500 in March, aiming to reach a peak capacity of 9,000 units per month by April. This growth is supported by Skoda’s Pune manufacturing facility, but the company acknowledges that supplier readiness will play a crucial role in meeting these targets.
Parallelly, Skoda is expanding its customer touchpoints from 272 to over 350 across India in 2025, ensuring better accessibility and service for its growing customer base.

Pricing and Market Position
Priced between INR 7.89 lakh and INR 16 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kylaq offers value for money. The OEM is targeting monthly sales of 3,000–4,000 units initially for the Kylaq, contributing to its broader goal of achieving 100,000 annual sales across its portfolio.
A Vision For The Future
The Kylaq is not merely a new model; it’s a vital step in Skoda’s journey to deliver world-class vehicles tailored for the Indian market. With its focus on premium design, practical features, and affordability, the Kylaq is set to disrupt the sub-4-metre SUV segment. For Skoda, it’s not just about making cars; it’s about crafting experiences that resonate with Indian consumers and establish the brand as a leader in the compact SUV space.
As Janeba aptly put it, “The Kylaq is a perfect blend of Skoda’s global engineering expertise and the unique needs of Indian customers.” It’s a vehicle designed to impress, perform, and connect with its customers in ways that only a Skoda can, he added.
