Suzuki e-Access Is Engineered For Everyday India

With a mature approach to battery life and design durability, Suzuki’s electric scooter could reshape consumer expectations.

The electric scooter space in India has no shortage of contenders with torquey speed figures, quick charge abilities and enough connected tech to put an old cell phone to shame. But amongst all this mashing of numbers, Suzuki’s new e-Access approaches the segment differently. Designed not just for the moment but for the long run, the e-Access brings a refreshing balance of practical design, long-term reliability, and refined performance. We rode the e-Access on a compact go-kart track to assess its dynamic behaviour and agility, and it left a strong first impression. However, road testing in varied city conditions will be required to make a complete verdict. For now, it is clear that Suzuki’s intent is to build a well-rounded product, not a headline grabber.

Battery Tech Prioritises Longevity

Central to the core of the Suzuki e-Access is its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, away from the industry-popular Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) cells. LFP batteries are heavier and slightly lower in energy density, but they deliver up to three times the lifecycle of conventional cells. That makes the e-Access a strong proposition for buyers looking for durability, especially in a segment where battery degradation is a common concern. With a 3.1 kWh capacity, Suzuki claims a real-world range of 95 km, deliberately tailored around market research which found that Indian riders typically cover around 30 km daily. It is imperative to mention that the petrol-powered Access rides past 250 km on a full tank.

There is an AC portable charger that charges from 0% to 100% in 6 hours and 20 minutes, or up to 80% in 4 hours and 30 minutes. While the Suzuki DC fast charger takes 2 hours and 12 minutes from 0% to 100%, and about 1 hour and 12 minutes to 80% SOC. Mind you, all these charge timings are at an ambient temperature of 25°C.

The battery is enclosed within an aluminium casing and mounted inside the scooter’s frame, reducing the risk of impact damage or thermal events. It has undergone extensive testing, including drop, crush, puncture, vibration, submersion, and temperature stress trials to ensure safety under harsh Indian conditions. And this is Suzuki we are talking about, they take their testing very seriously.

Designed Well Too

We all know aerodynamics play a massive role in EV design. It’s the same with the e-Access, it looks sleek, and grown up as well. It is a no-nonsense design, with fit and finish to match. The dash is a neat little colour screen giving you all the relevant data at a glance. It is bright too for use on those sunny days. The seat gets a step hold to make life easy, it does not drop on your head when you are rummaging through the 17 litre boot space (for reference Access has a 24.4 litre boot). Apart from this you get a couple of utility hooks to hang stuff onto, and a small cubby hole in the front for smaller knick-knacks.

Refined Dynamics On A Tight Circuit

As we mentioned earlier Suzuki gave us the scooter to ride around a go-kart track to test its dynamics. Despite being a utility-focused product, the e-Access handled itself confidently around quick turns. With a kerb weight that feels balanced and a low centre of gravity, it feels light on its feet. Turning is sharp, transitions are smooth, and direction changes come with ease. This seat is well-padded and contoured, making it comfortable for extended use.

As expected, the power delivery is really very smooth. And it stays smooth even when the battery state of charge is low, which is a result of Suzuki’s proprietary e-Technology we were told. It ensures consistent torque without lag or drop in performance at lower charge levels. Throttle response is quick without being twitchy, ideal for congested urban commuting. Regenerative braking further enhances control, especially when entering corners at higher speeds. Brakes are good too, the disc in the front and drum at the rear provide more than enough for most uses.

There are three modes to choose from, A, B and Eco. Mode A gives you full 71 kmph top speed with higher regen, mode B too, has 71 kmph top speed but with lower regen rate, and Eco drops the top speed to 55 kmph and greater energy conservation. You will also have to park it to change from mode A to B, or vice versa. Switching back to Eco can be done on the fly from any of the two modes. Yes, it is weird, and don’t ask us why.

Durability Beyond The Battery

This is supposed to be a durable e-scooter, and customers will not expect anything less from Suzuki. This is the reason - there is an emphasis on quality components across the board. The scooter uses a maintenance-free belt drive system, eliminating the need for regular lubrication and tension adjustments. This belt features a toothed design with an automatic tensioner, expected to last up to seven years or 70,000 km. This should be more than enough for most urban riders covering the bulk of the vehicle’s useful life.

This kind of thoughtful engineering helps reduce the total cost of ownership, a critical concern for EV buyers wary of high repair costs and limited service engineers. Suzuki’s approach ensures that beyond battery life other key components also contribute to long-term reliability. However, the pricing will play a massive role in its mass appeal when it gets revealed.

Suzuki is also planning to equip its entire dealership network to handle EVs, including trained service personnel and charging infrastructure, which adds confidence to the ownership experience. The DC fast chargers will be able to charge two scoots at a time, one with a gun, and the other with a 3-pin socket. But this charger setup will have to be expedited judiciously.

Suzuki is a byword for longevity. Scooters, motorcycles or even the large capacity motorcycles, the brand is downright dependable. This is the reason e-Access is not trying to be the fastest or the flashiest electric scooter in India. Instead, it aims to be the most dependable. From the choice of battery chemistry to the stress-tested components and fuss-free maintenance features, everything about the e-Access speaks to long-term value. In a market often distracted by range figures and top speeds, Suzuki has quietly built a product that may last longer than most.
