BASF Coatings has strengthened its digital ecosystem for the automotive refinish industry with the latest enhancements to Refinity, its cloud-based platform that integrates advanced colour technology, business intelligence, and training tools.

At the core of this upgrade is ScanR, BASF’s newest-generation spectrophotometer that redefines precision in digital colour matching. Designed for speed and accuracy, ScanR completes five precise measurements in just 30 seconds and incorporates automated Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and license plate recognition—reducing manual errors and saving valuable time. It also detects scratches and taps into the industry’s most extensive colour database, ensuring near-perfect matches with every scan.

The newly introduced ImagePLUS feature further supports body shops in streamlining the colour identification process. Compatible with both ScanR and previous-generation spectrophotometers, ImagePLUS brings an intuitive visual interface that simplifies data interpretation. By enabling real-time visual comparisons and advanced spectral curve analysis, the feature eliminates the need for multiple spray-outs, enhances first-time accuracy, and cuts down on material waste.

Chris Titmarsh, Senior Vice President, Automotive Refinish Coatings, BASF, said, “Thanks to our expertise in colour technology and sustainability, and developments with our OEM partners and customers, Refinity is set to enhance body shop performance in all areas. We are now able to offer a state-of-the-art cloud solution providing customers worldwide with a seamless digital colour experience.”

Refinity’s integration with BASF’s fully automated mixing machines, such as the Alfa CR4/6, allows for up to six simultaneous mixes with high precision and speed—further optimising workflow and reinforcing sustainability goals by minimising waste.

With these enhancements, BASF Coatings reaffirms its leadership in digital transformation for the refinish sector, combining scientific rigour, innovation, and environmental responsibility to deliver smarter, faster, and cleaner solutions for the future of mobility.
