BorgWarner, a global leader in sustainable mobility solutions, has signed a significant contract with a major global OEM to supply its 400-volt High Voltage Coolant Heater (HVCH) for a range of upcoming plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
The company’s 400V HVCH is engineered for flexibility and compactness, allowing integration into diverse vehicle platforms without the need for design changes. It features a thermal power output of up to 10 kW and employs brazed aluminium fin technology and thick-film heating to ensure efficient heat transfer, improved flow distribution, and reduced bubble formation—critical for both battery and cabin heating.
Dr Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, Turbos and Thermal Technologies, said, “This award strengthens our longstanding collaboration with the OEM and reinforces the value of our HVCH technology. We’re proud to deliver a solution that enhances robustness, reduces cost, and integrates seamlessly into our customer’s vehicle architecture.”
Beyond comfort, the HVCH plays a critical role in performance—ensuring consistent heat delivery regardless of external temperatures. This supports faster charging, extended battery life, and optimised driving range, making it a key enabler for next-generation electrified vehicles.
