The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has provided Akasa Air with its Air Operator Certificate (AOC), and accordingly, the airline plans to begin commercial operations later this month.

The airline said the grant of the AOC was the final step of a comprehensive DGCA process and marked the satisfactory completion of all regulatory and compliance requirements. This included successfully completing several proving flights under the supervision of the country's aviation regulator. Akasa Air is the first Indian airline to complete its AOC process using the eGCA digital platform.

Vinay Dube, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Akasa Air, said, 'We now look forward to opening our flights for sale, leading to the start of commercial operations by late July.'

The airline's code is QP, and it received its first 737 MAX in India on June 21. It will commence commercial operations with two new Boeing 737 MAX jetliners, subsequently adding new aircraft every month. By the end of the FY23 it plans to induct 18 aircraft and thereafter 12-14 aircraft every 12 months. Its entire order of 72 aircraft will be delivered by 2027.
