EKA Mobility, in collaboration with KPIT Technologies and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), has introduced Kerala’s first hydrogen fuel cell bus. The hydrogen fuel cell bus was showcased at the Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit in Kochi on 12th and 13th March 2025. The project combines the technological expertise of KPIT, which has developed the hydrogen fuel cell system, with EKA Mobility’s electric bus platform. BPCL has established the necessary hydrogen generation, dispensing, and refuelling infrastructure in Kochi, ensuring the feasibility of large-scale hydrogen mobility solutions in the future.

Dr Sudhir Mehta, Founder and CEO, EKA Mobility, stated that the introduction of the hydrogen fuel cell bus in Kochi reflects EKA Mobility’s focus on innovation and sustainable urban transport. He also emphasised that the company’s collaboration with BPCL and KPIT will play a vital role in expediting India’s transition to hydrogen-powered public transportation.

Kishor Patil, Co-founder, Managing Director, and CEO, KPIT Technologies, noted that KPIT has been investing in hydrogen fuel cell technology and other green mobility initiatives, and the partnership with EKA Mobility and BPCL represents a step forward in developing an ecosystem for hydrogen-powered transport.

The deployment of the hydrogen fuel cell bus at CIAL is expected to accelerate investment in green hydrogen infrastructure, influencing policies that will enable wider adoption of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles in India. The initiative is not just about introducing a new vehicle but about creating a complete hydrogen mobility ecosystem that can be replicated in other states.
