Elektrobit has announced a strategic partnership with Chinese intelligent driving solutions provider Metoak to accelerate the large-scale deployment of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) in China.

The collaboration centres on Elektrobit’s EB corbos Linux for Safety Applications—the world’s first open-source OS compliant with ISO 26262 ASIL B and IEC 61508 SIL 2 safety standards—and Metoak’s advanced perception chips and intelligent driving algorithms.

The partnership’s first production programme has entered the initial phase, focusing on stereoscopic vision perception and multi-sensor fusion to power next-gen ADAS controllers for features such as lane-keeping and automatic emergency braking. Mass production is targeted for early 2026. This represents a significant milestone in China’s intelligent mobility space, marking the first deep integration of open-source automotive OS with domestic chips.

The collaboration has two key pillars:

  1. Safety-Compliant Open-Source OS: EB corbos Linux enables 50% faster customisation while supporting UNECE R155 cybersecurity regulations. Its safety and updateability make it ideal for evolving SDV architectures.
  2. Domestic Chip Adaptation: Metoak has fully validated EB corbos Linux on its in-house chips, offering Chinese OEMs a secure, cost-effective platform with lower supply chain risk.

The partnership will also draw on Elektrobit’s legacy in AUTOSAR by co-developing ASIL D-compliant Classic AUTOSAR software and L3 autonomous domain controller algorithms. A local ecosystem is being planned to promote the “domestic chips + open-source system” model and encourage wider adoption of the EB corbos platform in China.

Metoak CEO Yaojie Lu highlighted the synergy, stating: “Combining EB corbos Linux’s flexibility with our stereo vision and AI stack offers unmatched performance and adaptability.”

Maria Anhalt, CEO of Elektrobit, added: “Collaboration and openness are central to SDV success. This partnership marks a milestone in the industrialisation of safety-compliant open-source platforms.”

Together, Elektrobit and Metoak aim to redefine China’s intelligent driving landscape with secure, efficient, and scalable automotive software solutions.
