Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has announced a voluntary recall of certain units of its CB300R motorcycle manufactured between 2018 and 2020 due to a defect in the headlight unit. The fault lies in the internal structure of the printed circuit board where core wires at the terminal roots are at risk of breaking under stress which may lead to the headlight flickering or switching off entirely.
The company has stated that the replacement of the affected part will be carried out free of cost regardless of the vehicle’s warranty status. The servicing will be done through Honda’s BigWing dealership network across India. Honda has also committed to contacting affected customers directly through phone email or text message and has provided a facility for owners to check if their vehicle is part of the recall by entering their Vehicle Identification Number on the official BigWing website
While Honda has presented this recall as part of its commitment to customer safety and proactive service, the issue concerns motorcycles that have already been in use for up to seven years. Although there are no known reports of accidents due to this fault the possibility of headlight failure on the road presents a serious risk that should arguably have been identified earlier.
Customers have been advised to book service appointments in advance to avoid delays at dealerships. This process relies heavily on owner initiative and availability of accurate contact details which may limit the recall’s reach in some cases. The move also places the onus on the rider to detect or respond to a problem which has its roots in the original manufacturing phase.
