
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) celebrated its 29th Foundation Day today, marking nearly three decades of transformative presence in the Indian automotive landscape. Established on May 6, 1996, HMIL has grown to become one of the country’s most trusted carmakers, blending innovation, sustainability, and customer-centricity into its brand ethos.
Reflecting on the journey, Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL, said, “Hyundai began its journey in India 29 years ago with a vision of mutual progress. Today, we not only deliver smart mobility solutions but also shape a future rooted in innovation and deep customer engagement. From launching the iconic Santro to introducing future-forward vehicles like the IONIQ 5 and CRETA, HMIL’s milestones mirror the evolution of India’s mobility landscape. Its first integrated plant outside Korea, set up in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, began operations in 1998 and has since grown into a global manufacturing hub. With the addition of its Talegaon facility, HMIL aims to scale annual production capacity to 1 million units.
A regional powerhouse for Hyundai Motor Company, HMIL has exported over 3.7 million vehicles to more than 150 countries, consistently holding the title of India’s largest passenger car exporter. In CY 2024, it contributed 18.5% of Hyundai’s global volumes, underscoring India’s strategic role in the company’s international operations.
On the social front, through the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the company has invested INR 400 crore in the last five years under its ‘Seed of Good’ CSR programme. These efforts, spanning the pillars of Earth, Mobility, and Hope, have impacted over two million lives annually and generated community income worth over INR 40 crore.
