Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced that its brand i10 has surpassed the 3.3 million unit sales milestone, with more than 2 million units sold domestically and over 1.3 million exported to over 140 countries. The brand i10, launched in India in 2007, continues to be a significant part of Hyundai’s portfolio, with exports forming over 20% of the company's overall sales.
The brand i10's evolution through three generations — i10, Grand i10, and Grand i10 NIOS — reflects how Hyundai has continuously adapted to the Indian market’s changing expectations. The localisation rate of over 91% for both domestic and export models is an impressive figure, particularly when seen against the backdrop of India’s broader manufacturing ambitions under the 'Make in India' initiative. Hyundai’s upcoming plant in Maharashtra is expected to further boost this export-oriented strategy, particularly towards emerging and developed markets.
Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, HMIL, highlighted that Hyundai’s focus remains on building smart mobility solutions designed both for India and the world. Over its 18-year journey, the i10 has consistently introduced new features ahead of its time in the segment, including dual airbags, ABS, and keyless entry as early as 2007.
