Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) is marking a major milestone as it celebrates 10 years of the Hyundai CRETA in India. Launched in July 2015, the vehicle has not only redefined the mid-size SUV segment but also established itself as an enduring symbol of aspiration, performance, and progress across 1.2 million Indian households.
From its very first rollout, the Hyundai CRETA made a bold impression—so much so that the mid-SUV category is often called the “CRETA segment.”
Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, HMIL, said, “The journey of Hyundai CRETA is deeply emotional—not just for us, but for every customer who made it part of their lives. CRETA is more than a product—it’s a revolution on wheels, a reflection of dreams and ambition.”
Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and COO, HMIL, said, “CRETA is a living legacy that has evolved with India’s SUV ambitions, often staying ahead of them. From two models in 2015 to 12 today, the mid-SUV space has grown exponentially—but CRETA continues to lead and define the segment it helped create.”
In its decade-long journey, the Hyundai CRETA has sold over 1.2 million units in India, firmly establishing itself as the market leader in the mid-size SUV segment with a commanding 31% share. Sunroof-equipped variants now make up 70% of total sales, highlighting evolving customer preferences. Annual sales have more than doubled, growing from 92,926 units in CY2016 to 186,919 units in CY2024. In the first half of CY2025 alone (January to June), the CRETA has been the top-selling SUV in India and the best-selling vehicle across all segments in three out of six months. The contribution of first-time buyers has grown significantly—from 12% in 2020 to 29% in 2024—underscoring its widening appeal. Offered in petrol, diesel, turbo, and electric powertrains with both manual and automatic transmissions, the made-in-India CRETA has also found a strong global market, with more than 2.87 lakh units exported to over 13 countries.
Evolution Beyond The Badge
From its debut tagline 'The Perfect SUV' in 2015 to its current positioning as 'The Undisputed Ultimate SUV,' CRETA has continually raised the bar. The launch of the second-generation model in 2020 and its major update in 2024 reflect Hyundai’s deep commitment to evolving consumer needs.
Special editions like the Knight and Adventure Editions struck a chord with customers looking for added flair and functionality, further cementing CRETA’s versatility. The brand has gone from being a car to becoming a lifestyle choice—an emotion for millions.
Celebrating the CRETA Legacy
To mark the 10-year celebration, HMIL has launched several initiatives:
- CRETA X Memories: A user-generated content contest inviting customers to share their stories, with prizes including a meet-and-greet with brand ambassador Deepika Padukone and Apple iPhones.
- Manifesto Film: A cinematic tribute celebrating the SUV’s decade-long journey, backed by digital and print campaigns.
- CRETA Legacy Drive: A 100-car convoy featuring proud CRETA owners, set to flag off from HMIL’s Gurgaon headquarters on July 26, 2025.
As it enters its next chapter, the Hyundai CRETA continues to drive India’s SUV dream forward—undisputed, unstoppable, and unforgettable.
