Hyundai CRETA has emerged as the highest-selling passenger vehicle in India for June 2025 registering 15,786 units sold in a single month. According to Hyundai Motor India Limited, the CRETA also became the top-selling car in March and April this year, consolidating its leadership in the highly competitive mid-size SUV category.
First introduced in 2015, the Hyundai CRETA has consistently remained the highest-selling mid-size SUV every full year since its launch. The vehicle has become a familiar choice for urban and intercity use alike, and its broad popularity reflects both product appeal and Hyundai’s sustained brand presence in India. With cumulative sales crossing 1.2 million units nationwide, the CRETA continues to serve a diverse customer base, from individual buyers to fleet operators.
The timing of the June 2025 sales record aligns closely with the brand’s 10th anniversary in the Indian market. Company officials have described the CRETA as more than just a vehicle, citing its widespread emotional resonance among buyers and its symbolic role in Hyundai’s domestic growth story. Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and COO of Hyundai Motor India, said the vehicle had redefined the SUV space over the last decade and had even led to the mid-size SUV category informally being referred to as the ‘CRETA segment’.
In terms of features, the CRETA has remained relevant by incorporating updated technologies, safety enhancements, and comfort-focused design over successive iterations. Its latest variants offer a range of engine options and infotainment systems, and earlier this year Hyundai also introduced an electric version of the CRETA, signalling its intent to participate more actively in the country’s evolving electric mobility sector.
The sales trend seen in the first half of 2025 suggests that the CRETA’s appeal has not waned despite newer competition in the SUV segment.
