IndiGo has announced the arrival of its Airbus A320 family jetliners fitted with Recaro Aircraft Seating’s (Recaro) BL3710 economy class seats. The airline contracted the supplier in July 2022 to deliver these seats for fitment on its new A320neo and A321neo jetliners.

This is the first time that IndiGo has opted for Recaro seats since the airline’s inception in 2006. The BL3710 economy class seat will be installed on 75 Airbus aircraft ordered by IndiGo. Each A321 can seat 232 passengers.

Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo, said adding the new seats on the airline’s brand-new A321neo aircraft would elevate the overall travel experience for its customers, providing them with more comfort and convenience on short and medium-haul flights.

Dr Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro Aircraft Seating and Recaro Holding, said, “It’s great to see the BL3710 flying for the first time with IndiGo, as it will elevate the passenger experience for their travellers.” This project marked the first of many collaborations with IndiGo, he added.

The airline has chosen a customised trim and finish for its BL3710 seats. The lightweight seat has numerous comfort features, including integrated neck support, an ergonomic backrest, and generous living space. Its reduced number of seat parts reduces waste and advances the sustainability goals of both companies. Its ergonomic design and reduced weight of 10kg per passenger have made it a bestseller since the seat first entered the market in 2019.
