
In a significant collaboration aimed at advancing the future of automotive software, HighTec EDV-Systeme, Elektrobit, and Infineon Technologies have partnered to integrate Rust applications into AUTOSAR Classic environments.
As part of Infineon’s Drive Core ecosystem for its AURIX TC4x microcontrollers, HighTec and Elektrobit are launching a comprehensive software development bundle that brings together HighTec’s ISO 26262 ASIL D-certified Rust and C/C++ LLVM-based compiler with Elektrobit’s EB tresos AutoCore Basic Software. Tailored specifically for the AURIX TC4x family, the Drive Core software bundle includes all essential tools—configuration systems, MCALs, examples, and tutorials—to enable developers to seamlessly build AUTOSAR components in Rust.
Rust’s growing appeal in the automotive sector stems from its performance, reliability, and especially its memory safety—making it an ideal fit for functional safety and cybersecurity applications demanded by emerging software-defined vehicles and regulatory standards like UN R155 and the EU Cyber Resilience Act. The integration of Rust into AUTOSAR Classic paves the way for hybrid software development, allowing safe coexistence of legacy C/C++ code with new Rust modules while meeting stringent compliance requirements.

Elektrobit’s enhanced EB tresos now supports efficient Rust development with minimal reliance on 'unsafe' code. This integration enables system-access code generation and supports advanced tooling such as Rust’s Clippy for static analysis and automatic code formatting—streamlining productivity and reducing cost and complexity in safety-critical environments.
HighTec’s compiler, the first to support Rust for Infineon’s AURIX TC3x and TC4x microcontrollers, is based on the robust LLVM open-source framework and is optimised for AURIX architecture, offering rapid build systems and advanced code optimisations.
