KPIT Technologies has collaborated with COEP Technological University to establish the KPIT APEX Lab. This is a significant industry-academia initiative aimed at strengthening student capabilities in embedded systems and hardware-software integration. Unveiled in Pune, the Advanced Platform for Embedded eXpertise (APEX) Lab marks a deliberate step in KPIT’s CSR and academic upskilling efforts.
The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art tools designed to provide undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and faculty with hands-on training on real-world challenges. By focusing on key areas such as embedded systems and the integration of hardware with software, the initiative seeks to make technical education more aligned with evolving industry needs. This comes at a time when many Indian engineering graduates continue to face criticism for lacking practical exposure despite academic qualifications.
Anup Sable, CTO, KPIT Technologies, highlighted the importance of such partnerships in building the future workforce of the mobility and embedded systems sectors. Vinayak Pai, Chairman, COEP, described the lab as a transformative step that closes the divide between classroom learning and industrial practice. He stated that with strong support from the university's Vice Chancellor and Board of Governance, the lab is expected to grow into a centre of excellence for research and innovation.
The lab’s cluster-based model allows it to benefit not just COEP students but also those from affiliated institutions such as AISSMS Institute of Information Technology, Marathwada Mitra Mandal’s College of Engineering, and Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering. This shared structure supports scalable infrastructure use, joint curriculum development, and collaborative faculty training, ensuring wider access and standardisation of education quality.
In line with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the KPIT APEX Lab promotes multidisciplinary and modular learning through credit-based education. The emphasis on continuous learning, industry-relevant skills, and innovation readiness makes it a timely addition to India’s engineering education landscape.
