The Indian carmaker, Mahindra and Mahindra on Monday launched its latest SUV, the Scorpio N starting at INR 11.99 lakh, ex-showroom, India for the Z2 petrol variant. The launch prices are applicable for first 25,000 bookings.

The add to cart feature for the vehicle will start from July 5, 2022 while the bookings commence from July 30, 2022 with test rides starting the same day at select 30 cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Ahmedabad among others.

The company noted that the bookings will be done on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and will also form the basis of delivery dates, depending on the variant chosen by the customer and the deliveries will begin during the forthcoming festive season.

The vehicle is said to be manufactured at the company’s Chakan, Pune plant on a new assemble line with new TCF line and new body shop along with new paint shop.

R Veluswamy, Senior Vice President, Mahindra Rise said that the vehicle has been jointly designed by the Pininfarina team in Italy and M&M design team in Mumbai while it has been engineered jointly by the company’s engineering team at Chennai and Detroit.

Built on the third gen body-on-frame chassis from the company, the new SUV features Double Wishbone Suspension with Coil over Shocks Front Suspension, Pentalink Rear suspension​ with WATT’s Linkage and FDD (Frequency Dependent Damping), and MTV CL (Multi-tuned Valve - Concentric Land).

Furthermore, it also gets electric shift-on-the-fly 4XPLOR 4x4 System with multiple terrain modes including sand, snow, gravel with and normal with Mechanical & Brake locking differential for higher variants while the lower trim levels get Zip/Zap/Zoom ​Drive Modes.

Under the hood, the new full size SUV gets an option for TGDi mStallion petrol engine with 203PS and 380Nm torque or mHawk diesel mill with 175 PS and 400 Nm torque. Both the engines are offered with a 6 speed Manual and Automatic Transmission options with 4X4 as option.

It must be noted though that in the Z4 and the Z2 trim level the diesel mill churns out 132 PS and 300 Nm of torque.

On the features side it gets 20.32 cm touch screen Infotainment system with Navigation and wireless Apple Carplay & Andriod Auto, 17.28 cm colour digital instrument cluster, AdrenoX with 70 connected car features, Amazon Alexa Built-in with what3words (w3w), 12 Speakers Sony 3D sound system with dual Channel sub-woofer, Dual Zone FATC with Rear AC module, Dual Camera - Front and Rear​, Wireless Charger, Tyre Direction Monitor and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to name a few.

It also gets a set of 18 inch alloy wheels on the higher trim levels while the variants at the lower spectrum makes do with 17 inch steel rims.

Speaking of safety features, the Scorpio N comes with six Airbags including Front, Side and Curtain, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Driver Drowsiness Detection, Traction Control System, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Roll Over Mitigation, Brake Disc wiping, Electronic Brake Prefill, E-call, SOS Switch, ISOFIX and i-SIZE compatibility among others.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, noted that the company has a market share of 25% in the compact SUV segment with four offerings including Thar, Bolero Neo, XUV 300 and the Bolero while in the full size SUV segment, it has a market share of 14% with the XUV 700 and the Scorpio.

He added that the company aims to significantly increase its market share in the D-segment with the new offering, Scorpio N.

Veluswamy noted that the company has sold over eight lakh units of the Scorpio ever since its introduction two decades back.
