Mahindra is all set to make its long-range 79kWh battery pack more accessible in the XEV 9e lineup. Until now, this larger battery was only available with the top-spec variant of the XEV 9e. Soon, it will also be offered with the slightly more affordable Pack Three Select variant, allowing more buyers to experience extended range without opting for the fully-loaded model.
This move comes as Mahindra looks to strike a better balance between affordability and driving range. The 79kWh battery provides a certified MIDC range of up to 656km—significantly more than the 542km range offered by the smaller 59kWh battery. In real-world use, this makes a noticeable difference for those who do longer commutes or road trips.
The key distinction between the Pack Three and Pack Three Select trims lies in features. While the top-end Pack Three includes premium additions like advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a heads-up display, and ambient lighting, the Select variant skips some of these but still offers core comforts like a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and connected car tech.

Both battery options use the same rear-wheel-drive setup, but performance improves with the bigger battery—producing 282bhp versus 228bhp from the 59kWh version.
This shift is expected to make the XEV 9e’s higher-range variant more appealing to buyers who want long-distance capability but don’t necessarily need every luxury feature. It also hints at Mahindra’s broader strategy to offer more flexible combinations of range and features, including similar updates for the upcoming BE6 electric SUV.
With competition heating up in the electric SUV space, Mahindra’s decision could strengthen its position in the segment by offering a more customer-centric approach to EV configurations.
