Nidec Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of electric motors and industrial solutions, has inaugurated its largest Indian manufacturing facility—Orchard Hub—in the Kotur-Belur Industrial Area of Hubli-Dharwad, Karnataka.

The inauguration ceremony, attended by Karnataka’s Cabinet Minister for Large & Medium Industries M B Patil, Nidec Motion & Energy President Michael Briggs, and dignitaries from Japan and France, marked the start of machinery and equipment installation across the six-plant campus. Production is scheduled to begin later this year.

Constructed in just 20 months since its groundbreaking in September 2023, Orchard Hub will manufacture products for high-growth sectors such as data centre generators, wind turbine generators, battery energy storage systems (BESS), electric vehicle motors and chargers, and high-efficiency industrial motors. Built on Nidec’s 3Q6S lean manufacturing principles and equipped with advanced automation, the facility is designed to deliver globally competitive products while ensuring top-tier quality and service.

With an investment of $55 million, Orchard Hub serves as the cornerstone of Nidec’s 'India for India' and 'India for Exports' strategy. It aims to cater to both domestic and international markets, enhancing India’s position in global manufacturing and aligning with national initiatives like “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Briggs, said, “This facility is more than infrastructure—it’s a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and commitment to empowering communities and advancing clean technologies.”

The campus is expected to generate over 2,000 employment opportunities, including 1,000 direct jobs. Recruitment efforts are already underway, targeting diploma and ITI graduates from institutions in and around Hubli-Dharwad.

In line with its global sustainability goals, Nidec aims to make the Orchard Hub carbon-neutral by 2028 through solar energy, in-house microgrid systems, and battery energy storage solutions.

Girish D Kulkarni, President and Country Managing Director, said, “Orchard Hub is a centre for innovation, collaboration, and sustainable manufacturing that will help shape the future of Nidec in India.”
