Nissan has announced the launch of its next-generation ProPILOT autonomous driving technology, set to debut in fiscal year 2027. Marking a major leap in driver assistance systems, the updated ProPILOT will incorporate advanced ‘Ground Truth Perception’ technology alongside AI-powered software from UK-based tech firm Wayve.
The core of Nissan’s upcoming system is its Ground Truth Perception, which fuses next-generation LiDAR, camera, and radar technologies to deliver precise 3D recognition of a vehicle’s surroundings. Enhanced LiDAR capabilities—including improved range, field of view, and resolution—will unlock significantly more accurate collision avoidance performance.
Powering the decision-making side is Wayve’s AI Driver software, built on a powerful embodied AI foundation model. This generative AI technology learns from vast real-world driving data, allowing it to adapt to complex driving scenarios with human-like responsiveness. The software is designed to accelerate the deployment of autonomous driving by improving safety and reliability across both urban and highway conditions.
