NXP Semiconductors has introduced NTAG X DNA, its latest Type 4 secure connected NFC tag designed to tackle product counterfeiting and support emerging regulatory needs like the EU’s upcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirement.

With 16KB of high-density memory, high-speed data transfer at 848 kbps, and robust Secure Unique NFC (SUN) authentication, the NTAG X DNA delivers advanced security and performance across industries such as healthcare, industrial IoT, and consumer electronics.

The tag enables mobile devices to securely interact with another device via I2C or NFC, even when unpowered—allowing authentication, diagnostics, and data management to take place with a simple tap. Its dual-interface functionality and compatibility with any NFC mobile device make it ideal for verifying authenticity, accessing device data, and securely onboarding connected products.

Alasdair Ross, Senior Director of NFC IoT Security at NXP, said, “The NTAG X DNA enhances consumer confidence and enables fast, reliable authentication through a seamless NFC experience. It’s also backed by our EdgeLock 2GO service, ensuring secure credential delivery and cloud support.”

Certified to Common Criteria EAL 6+ and leveraging asymmetric cryptography, the NTAG X DNA stands out for its secure credential management and real-time cloud interaction capabilities. It is built to meet evolving regulatory and industry expectations while safeguarding data privacy—even on devices that are powered off.
