Remsons Industries Limited has announced the acquisition of a 51.01 percent stake in Astro Motors Private Limited for INR 14.22 crore. The acquisition includes INR 4.22 crore in equity issued on a preferential basis, pending shareholder approval, and INR 10 crore in cash. With this deal, Remsons makes a strategic entry into the electric three-wheeler manufacturing space at a time when the last-mile delivery segment is witnessing sharp growth.
Astro Motors, based in Chakan, Pune, is one of the few electric three-wheeler manufacturers using gear technology. This sets it apart in a market otherwise dominated by hub motor-driven vehicles. The company has developed the Astro Navya, a geared cargo EV with a payload capacity of 747 kg and a range of 131 kilometres on a single charge. It is powered by a 10.2 kWh battery and is equipped to handle steep inclines and challenging terrain. Notably, the Astro Navya reached Umling La Pass in Ladakh, recognised as the highest motorable road in the world at 19,024 feet, demonstrating its durability in extreme conditions.
The acquisition allows Remsons to position itself in a fast-evolving mobility sector where the demand for electric cargo and passenger three-wheelers is increasing due to the expansion of e-commerce and quick-commerce logistics. Astro Motors is actively building its dealer network and is expected to launch passenger EV variants within four to six months. This aligns with market trends that are pushing for cleaner, more efficient urban and rural mobility solutions.
The geared EV model, in particular, provides higher torque and better hill-climbing ability, making it well suited for both urban transport and difficult terrains, where conventional EVs may underperform. Additionally, the cargo-focused electric three-wheeler provides a promising option for commercial operators seeking high-capacity, zero-emission alternatives to traditional fuel-based vehicles.
Rahul Kejriwal, Executive Director, Remsons Industries, noted that the move is part of a broader strategy to diversify and build presence in the electric vehicle space. With this development, Remsons adds not only a new product segment but also expands into vehicle manufacturing, moving beyond its component supplier roots.
