Schaeffler India Limited has inaugurated its fifth manufacturing facility in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu. Spanning 16,500 square metres, the state-of-the-art plant is dedicated to producing powertrain and chassis components, with a sharp focus on both conventional systems and emerging electrified technologies.
The new site will significantly boost the company’s production capacity for transmission components, including planetary gear systems and hybrid transmission modules, primarily targeting the Indian market. It aligns with Schaeffler’s long-term vision of deepening localisation, scaling e-mobility innovations, and enhancing its global competitiveness.
In line with Schaeffler Group’s global sustainability strategy, the Shoolagiri plant incorporates a range of green features—natural lighting, rainwater harvesting, zero liquid discharge systems, battery-operated material handling, energy-efficient equipment, and fully LED-lit premises.
Matthias Zink, CEO Powertrain & Chassis, Schaeffler AG, highlighted India’s strategic importance in the group’s global roadmap, noting that the new facility enables closer proximity to growing regional demand. Harsha Kadam, Managing Director & CEO, Schaeffler India, underscored the company’s ongoing investment in capacity expansion, customer focus, and support for India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
With this addition, Schaeffler India now operates five manufacturing units and three R&D centres in the country. Between 2022 and 2024, the company has invested INR 1,700 crore—INR 200 crore more than its original commitment—to expand local production capabilities, particularly in powertrain, e-mobility, and industrial bearing segments.
Further enhancing its local presence, Schaeffler India entered the digital aftermarket space with the 2023 acquisition of Koovers, a B2B e-commerce platform for automotive components.
