The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) hosted the 11th SIAM Automotive Logistics Conclave in New Delhi today, centred on the theme 'Enhancing Efficiencies in Automotive Logistics.'
Addressing the gathering, Hitendra Malhotra, Member (Operations & Business Development), Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, announced that Indian Railways is introducing specialised wagons with higher car-carrying capacities—including double-deck configurations for SUVs—to meet the sector’s rising logistics demands.
Tapan Ghosh, Chairman, SIAM Logistics Group and Vice President – Sales, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., highlighted the sector’s 7.3% growth in FY 2024–25, noting that smarter and greener logistics solutions have become essential. Echoing this sentiment, S D Chhabra, Co-Chairman, SIAM Logistics Group and Executive Officer – Logistics, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., emphasised the shift toward greater rail transport and real-time tracking capabilities for enhanced supply chain visibility.
Panel discussions throughout the day focused on multimodal transport, digital transformation, policy alignment, and risk mitigation. Speakers explored how integrating advanced planning tools and connected technologies can help future-proof logistics against disruptions.
Notable participants included B N Puri (AITD), Jagmeet Singh (Axestrack), Sagar R. Kadu (DPIIT), Dr. Mukesh Haritash (Chetak Logistics), Clint Carmichael (Gujarat Pipavav Port), P. Rajagopi (Honda 2W), Anuj Mangla (Transglobal Carriers), and Yash Pal Sachar (Ashok Leyland), all sharing strategies to optimise automotive supply chains.
A dedicated sustainability track featured insights from Ajay Chaudhary (Think Gas), Anup Sureshkumar (Mappls MapmyIndia), Nidhish Kuchhal (Mahindra & Mahindra), Anil Syal (Safexpress), and Ashish Bhatt (APLL VASCOR Automotive), calling for greater adoption of eco-friendly practices aligned with India’s green mobility goals.
The conclave also recognised leading logistics service providers for innovation and operational excellence, reinforcing the sector’s role as a critical enabler of future mobility.
Through collaborative engagement and forward-looking dialogue, the conclave spotlighted the automotive logistics sector’s readiness to scale through innovation, infrastructure modernisation, and sustainability-led transformation.
