The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) hosted the 2nd Automotive Taxation Conference 2025 in New Delhi under the theme “Drive with Policy Reforms and Innovation to Build Viksit Bharat.”

Key sessions explored GST compliance best practices, ongoing challenges, and the application of AI and analytics to simplify compliance processes.

Shashank Priya, Special Secretary & Member (GST, CX&ST), CBIC, Ministry of Finance, said the government is working on GST rate rationalisation to reduce disputes and improve consumer sentiment. He added that early refunds under the inverted duty structure, more auto-filled data, and defined reconciliation timelines for credit notes are being prioritised.

Senior officials including Vivek Ranjan, Member (Tax Policy & Legal), CBIC, Bhaskar Goswami, Joint Secretary, CBDT, and Nisha Gupta, Senior VP, GSTN, highlighted forthcoming reforms designed to ease compliance and improve the ease of doing business.

Industry leaders stressed the importance of predictable tax policies to encourage investment in India’s energy transition. Arnab Roy, CFO, Maruti Suzuki, called GST a “game changer” but pressed for stability to support long-term R&D. Vivek Anand, CFO, Hero MotoCorp, emphasised the need to rationalise GST slabs and address classification and input credit issues.

Legal expert V Lakshmikumaran underlined the automobile sector’s role as a vital employment generator, while SIAM taxation group heads from Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, and BMW India shared opportunities for streamlining tax structures.

The conference reinforced SIAM’s vision of closer industry-government collaboration to build a taxation framework that fuels growth, supports innovation, and strengthens India’s path to becoming a Viksit Bharat.
