Stellantis has announced the entry of the Leapmotor electric vehicle brand into India to establish a broader electric mobility footprint in one of the fastest-growing automotive markets. This move is part of Stellantis’ wider ambition to offer smart, sustainable, and affordable mobility solutions to consumers across developing and mature markets alike.
The decision to introduce Leapmotor follows a period of accelerated global growth for the Chinese EV maker. In 2024 alone, Leapmotor delivered close to 300,000 vehicles, doubling its sales from the previous year. This expansion into India signals a shift in strategy that prioritises emerging markets as crucial territories for electric mobility adoption. India’s fast-growing demand for electric vehicles, driven by supportive policies and urban transition trends, makes it a fitting next destination for Leapmotor’s international expansion.
Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director, Stellantis India, noted that with established brands like Jeep and Citroën already present in the country, Stellantis is not unfamiliar with the Indian market’s nuances. The addition of Leapmotor reflects the company's confidence in the rising interest in EVs among Indian consumers and a belief that the timing is right to bring globally proven models to local roads.
The upcoming launch is expected to feature a range of EVs equipped with modern technologies and comfort features tailored for Indian road conditions and usage patterns.
