Suzuki has unveiled the new GSX-R1000R to celebrate 40 years of the GSX-R legacy as a supersport icon. From the debut of the GSX-R750 in 1985 to the latest generation GSX-R1000R, the series has embodied racing performance adapted for the road. More than one million units have been sold globally and the motorcycle continues to define Suzuki’s high-performance philosophy with a blend of track capability and everyday usability.
The updated GSX-R1000R features a 999.8 cc inline four-cylinder engine that has undergone comprehensive revisions to optimise both performance and efficiency. The cylinder head and combustion chamber have been redesigned, the compression ratio raised to 13.8:1 and the exhaust system fully updated with a lighter titanium silencer and dual oxygen sensors. These improvements, combined with refined fuel injection and forged aluminium pistons, enhance throttle response and reduce emissions to meet Euro 5+ regulations without compromising the GSX-R’s trademark acceleration and revvy character.
The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) has also evolved with a suite of electronic aids aimed at improving control and rider confidence. The platform integrates a 10-level traction control, launch control, lift limiter, roll torque control, and an improved bidirectional quickshifter. Features such as slope-dependent ABS and motion track braking enhance safety in dynamic riding conditions, while a lighter Bosch IMU and compact ABS unit ensure precise feedback with reduced overall weight.
Suzuki has introduced three commemorative liveries inspired by iconic GSX-R race machines: 40th Blue, 40th Red, and 40th Yellow. These colour schemes are complemented by anniversary logos on the tank and fairings, gold-finished brake discs, and detailed finishes on components like the clutch cover and silencer. Optional carbon side fins have been developed to improve high-speed downforce and stability.
