Tata Motors, India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has inaugurated its eighth Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Kolkata, marking another milestone in its drive to promote sustainable and responsible vehicle end-of-life management. Named Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect, the facility is capable of safely dismantling up to 21,000 vehicles annually, including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers of all brands.
Operated in partnership with Selladale Synergies India Pvt. Ltd, the Kolkata RVSF joins Tata Motors’ expanding network of scrapping centres located in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune and Guwahati, with the eastern region now hosting three Re.Wi.Re facilities.
Gracing the inaugural ceremony were Snehasis Chakraborty, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal; Firhad Hakim, Mayor of Kolkata and Minister of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs (virtually); Saumitra Mohan, IAS, Secretary, Department of Transport; and Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, alongside other dignitaries.
Chakraborty called the launch “a welcome step towards building a cleaner and more efficient future,” while Hakim noted its potential to “create valuable employment and reduce environmental burden.” Kaul highlighted Tata Motors’ leadership in circular economy initiatives, stating the company’s eight RVSFs now have a combined capacity to dismantle over 1.3 lakh vehicles annually.
The facility is fully digitalised and paperless, offering cell-type dismantling for two- and three-wheelers and commercial vehicles, and line-type dismantling for passenger vehicles. It features dedicated stations for the safe extraction and disposal of components like tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, and gases, strictly adhering to India’s vehicle scrappage policy.
