Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), a subsidiary of Tata Motors, has officially re-entered the South African passenger vehicle market, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion journey.

The re-entry comes in partnership with Motus Holdings, South Africa’s leading automotive group, bringing together Tata’s engineering expertise and Motus’ strong distribution and service capabilities. TMPV’s return is timed with its rapid growth trajectory in India, where passenger vehicle sales have surged 350% in five years, scaling from 170,000 units in 2020 to over 560,000 units in 2025.

Safety remains a key differentiator, with TMPV’s entire portfolio rated 4- or 5-stars under globally recognised crash test protocols, including Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Speaking at the launch, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said, “Our return to South Africa marks a significant milestone in Tata Motors’ global journey. With Motus as our partner, we are confident in delivering a superior ownership experience through vehicles that blend safety, technology, and modern design.”

Ockert Janse Van Rensburg, Group CEO of Motus Holdings, said, “This collaboration is about more than vehicles. It is about building trust, delivering excellence, and shaping the future of mobility in South Africa.”

At launch, TMPV will operate through a network of 40 dealerships, with plans to expand to 60 by 2026. Beyond expanding consumer choice, Tata’s re-entry is expected to positively impact the South African economy through investments in job creation, skills development, and training for technicians and sales professionals. Partnerships with local financial institutions will also support competitive financing options, improving accessibility for customers.

The product line-up brings something for every customer segment: the Harrier with its premium SUV presence and Level 2 ADAS safety, the coupe-inspired Curvv, the urban-friendly Punch, and the youthful Tiago hatchback. Future plans include expanding the portfolio further with alternative energy powertrains, aligning with Tata’s long-term vision for sustainable mobility.
