Tata Motors has inaugurated two new Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) under its Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect initiative. The newly opened centres in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and Raipur, Chhattisgarh, are aimed at safely dismantling end-of-life vehicles and promoting resource recovery through scientific recycling practices. The virtual launch was attended by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, who acknowledged the initiative as a key enabler of the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy.
The Raipur facility, operated by Raipur Green Energy Pvt Ltd, has a capacity to scrap 25,000 vehicles annually, while the Lucknow centre, run by Moto Scrapland Pvt Ltd, can dismantle up to 15,000 vehicles each year. Both facilities are equipped to handle all vehicle categories across brands, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers.
The scrapping process at these centres follows a fully digital and paperless workflow. Each vehicle undergoes a structured inspection, followed by the safe dismantling of tyres, batteries, fluids, and gases. Commercial vehicles are handled in a cell-type dismantling setup, while passenger vehicles are processed through a line-type dismantling system. This careful segregation and treatment of materials aim to maximise material recovery while ensuring safe disposal in line with the national policy.
