Tata Motors has begun deliveries of 148 Starbus electric buses to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) expanding the city’s fleet of electric public transport vehicles and deepening its shift towards sustainable urban mobility. The rollout, which follows the successful operation of over 900 Tata electric buses in the city, is part of a 12-year operational contract handled by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd.

BMTC acknowledged the reliable performance of Tata’s existing electric buses and cited their high uptime and passenger satisfaction as key reasons for continuing the partnership. The corporation expects this additional fleet to improve coverage and frequency on more routes across Bengaluru, offering a cleaner and safer alternative to traditional diesel buses.

Tata Motors has positioned the Starbus EV as a city-focused solution built for daily urban transport. The buses are equipped with modern safety and control systems including Electronic Stability Control and Electronic Brake Distribution. A low-floor design paired with ergonomic seating for 35 passengers aims to improve boarding ease and in-transit comfort. With no tailpipe emissions, the buses have already contributed to lowering the city’s transport-related air pollution.

TML Smart City Mobility Ltd has maintained the earlier fleet across 921 units and has reportedly clocked over six crore kilometres while sustaining high levels of service availability. This long-term performance appears to have reinforced BMTC’s confidence in Tata’s execution capabilities, not just its product design.
