Tata Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Green Energy Mobility Solutions, the electric vehicle arm of Universal Bus Services, to supply 100 Magna EV intercity coaches. The agreement was formalised at the Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0 held in Chennai, where Tata Motors showcased its advanced passenger mobility solutions including the Magna EV and LPO 1822.
Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Industries, Dr T.R.B. Rajaa, welcomed the initiative as a move aligned with the state’s long-term transport goals. He highlighted how such efforts not only contribute to lower emissions but also offer a practical, cleaner alternative for public mobility. The focus on intercity coaches adds weight to a segment often overlooked in electric mobility discourse, which has so far leaned more towards intra-city solutions.
According to Sunil Kumar Ravindran, Director at Green Energy Mobility Solutions, the new Magna EV coaches are expected to raise comfort standards while bringing tangible reductions in emissions and expenses. The deployment will also improve overall ride quality, thanks to quieter cabins and smoother performance typical of electric drivetrains.
Tata Motors’ Magna EV is designed for intercity use and can travel up to 300 km on a single charge. It comes with 44 seats and features safety systems like Electronic Braking and Stability Control. According to Anand S, who heads the Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors, the Magna EV is the result of rigorous trials and customer feedback.
