Texas Instruments (TI) has launched a series of functionally isolated modulators that redefine the performance standards for precision motor control in compact robotic designs.
The new products – AMC0106M05, AMC0136, and AMC0106M25 – are the first in the industry to deliver functionally isolated measurements with up to 14 effective number of bits (ENOB), providing engineers with exceptional current and voltage sensing capabilities.
With robots increasingly being tasked with more complex and delicate operations, from handling miniature components to performing medical procedures, precise control has never been more critical.
Karthik Vasanth, Vice President and General Manager of Data Converters and Clocks at TI, commented, “These modulators enable designers to increase robotics accuracy and productivity in new use cases and smaller form factors, from the factory floor to the operating room. Where humanoid robots could previously only complete simple tasks, our new modulators now allow them to carry out more dexterous and precise jobs.”
Tiny Packages, Big Impact On Robotic Precision
Housed in a compact 3.5mm x 2.7mm leadless package, the new modulators are 50% smaller than conventional reinforced isolation solutions, significantly reducing board space requirements. This compact size provides engineers with greater design flexibility, allowing room for additional features without compromising the device footprint – an essential advantage for space-constrained robotics.
The improved 12–14 ENOB resolution not only enhances motor torque control and smooth movement but also improves system protection, making these modulators ideal for a wide range of applications including factory automation, medical robotics, and consumer-grade robotic devices.
Dexterous Robotics
As robotics continues to advance into high-precision domains, such as surgical assistance, micro-assembly, and automated laboratory equipment, the ability to sense with greater accuracy becomes a key enabler. TI’s innovation in the isolated ADC space is poised to accelerate the miniaturisation and intelligence of robotic systems, allowing them to take on tasks that were once considered too complex or delicate.
By marrying compact design with uncompromised precision, TI’s latest analogue solutions give robotics engineers the tools to unlock a new generation of smarter, more capable machines—helping to push the boundaries of what’s possible in both industrial and medical environments.
