Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has officially launched Environment Month 2025, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to sustainability through a comprehensive campaign themed “Sustainable Resource Management Drive.”
Central to this year’s campaign is the adoption of Zero-Base Thinking, a strategic approach that involves reevaluating resource use from the ground up and retaining only what adds true value. The philosophy underpins TKM’s broader 4R framework—Refuse, Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce—guiding operations toward long-term efficiency and sustainable transformation.
Environment Month, observed globally every June, serves as a key platform for Toyota to drive awareness and action on pressing ecological issues. In India, the 2025 edition also commemorates “Journey to Green @ 25”, highlighting major environmental milestones achieved by TKM, including 100% renewable grid electricity usage, 89.3% of water requirements met through recycling and rainwater harvesting, and 96% recyclability of plant waste.
A standout achievement is the creation of Ecozone, a unique 25-acre experiential environmental learning centre featuring 17 theme parks designed to cultivate eco-consciousness among children. So far, it has reached over 42,000 students and stakeholders, nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards.
B Padmanabha, Executive Vice President and Director – Manufacturing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “Our commitment to Zero-Base Thinking helps us go beyond marginal improvements to embrace transformative, practical solutions that reduce our environmental footprint. It’s a collective effort that empowers individuals across our ecosystem to engage in meaningful change.”
As part of the Environment Month activities, TKM is hosting the “Sustainable Hub 2025,” a multi-dimensional platform fostering learning, innovation, and engagement. Key weekly events include:
- Green Expo: TTTI students showcasing environmental KPI-driven models
- Wealth from Waste: School-led upcycling projects
- Green Exhibition: Eco-friendly daily essentials
- Tech Show: Sustainable energy innovations like solar stoves and electric bicycles
A wide range of sustainability initiatives are also underway, including a 5% reduction in parts packaging, elimination of plastic bottles and cutlery by July 2025, and the rollout of upcycled products like copier paper and reusable bags. Kaizen-led improvements continue to reduce CO₂ emissions, water usage, waste, and paper consumption, advancing TKM’s Plant Zero CO₂ by 2030 target.
Tree plantation drives and sapling distributions across TKM facilities and partner sites support afforestation and biodiversity, while awareness outreach is being extended to ITI colleges, government schools, and local communities to instill a deep-rooted environmental mindset.
To foster greater participation, TKM will recognise outstanding sustainability contributions from employees, suppliers, dealers, and logistics partners throughout the month.
Environment Month 2025 reflects Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s deep-rooted philosophy of “Respect for the Planet”—turning vision into impact through collaborative action, long-term thinking, and practical innovation for a greener tomorrow.
