To tap into the rapid growth of India’s construction and mining equipment sector—expected to surge from $16 billion to $45 billion by 2030—Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has launched an all-new range of BharatBenz Construction and Mining trucks.

Featuring the robust HX and Torqshift series, this next-generation lineup is designed to meet the rising demand for high-performance, reliable, and efficient vehicles as large contractors modernise ageing fleets and shift towards owning long-life assets.

Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said, the new series was unveiled after extensive customer validation, with over 200 HX series trucks and about 80 Torqshift series trucks tested in India’s most demanding mining and construction environments. These real-world trials demonstrated substantial improvements in uptime, operational efficiency, and profitability, prompting the company to move forward with full-scale production.

“We’re seeing a decisive shift as large contractors invest in owned assets for better control and long-term returns. Many fleets are 8–10 years old and reaching end-of-life, creating a major replacement cycle. Our customer trials validated the real-world performance and profitability impact these vehicles deliver,” he said.

Currently the company has about 50% market share in the shallow mining segment, which is up to 80 metres deep. With the launch of these two models, the company hopes to enhance its share significantly, Arya added.

Comprehensive Line-Up

The HX series includes 2828C HX and 3532C HX models, designed for extreme durability and superior fuel efficiency. Equipped with 280 hp/1100 Nm and 320 hp/1250 Nm configurations respectively, they also feature Hill Hold Assist, unitized front axle bearings, wind deflectors, and driver state monitoring systems, offering best-in-class drivability under harsh operating conditions.

The Torqshift series, featuring 2832CM and 3532CM variants, comes with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) for zero-lag performance, enhanced comfort, and improved fuel efficiency in heavy-duty mining applications.

The 2828C RMC variant offers a 9-cubic-metre concrete drum, powered by the OM 926 BSVI OBD-II engine that produces 280 hp and 1100 Nm torque, ensuring consistent and reliable performance even on rough terrains.

From Operator Pain To Peak Performance

The objective for the OEM, according to Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President & Chief Technology Officer, DICV, is to solve real-world pain points with purpose-built performance. He highlighted that the HX series was developed by listening closely to customer pain points. “Fleet managers prioritise faster turnaround times, reduced maintenance costs, and higher payload capacities. Each component in this range has been re-engineered to address real-world challenges, with enhanced safety through full EU ECE R29-03 cabin compliance,” he said.

Key Features That Differentiate HX Range

Engineered for the most demanding construction and mining environments, the new BharatBenz trucks offer a host of performance-driven features that elevate productivity and reliability. With exceptional gradeability—up to 60% in the 2828C and 54% in the 3532C—these trucks ensure confident uphill movement even under full load. The crux of the design lies in the fully synchronised performance system that integrates the frame, axles, braking, and engine for seamless operation across terrains.

Safety is paramount, with advanced technologies like Driver State Monitoring and Hill Hold Assist enhancing both driver awareness and vehicle control. For off-road conditions, the Inter-Axle and Inter-Wheel Differential Lock (IRT 440-11) delivers better traction, while improved approach angles and generous ground clearance enable effortless navigation over rugged landscapes.

The bolster bogie suspension with shock absorbers ensures better load distribution and ride comfort, while aerodynamic touches such as wind deflectors contribute to greater fuel efficiency. Coupled with a best-in-class warranty, this next-generation range promises long-term peace of mind for fleet operators.

Rajiv Chaturvedi, President & Chief Business Officer at DICV, added that customer expectations are rapidly evolving. “Fleet operators increasingly demand maximum uptime and feature-loaded vehicles with enhanced driver comfort. Factory-fitted GPS, hill-start assist, and safety features like reverse cameras are now top priorities,” he added.

The vehicles will be available through BharatBenz’s 385-dealer strong pan-India network, supported by a robust service ecosystem. The company offers comprehensive 15,000-hour annual maintenance contracts and operates an advanced uptime centre that leverages real-time vehicle monitoring and predictive analytics to ensure high fleet efficiency and minimal downtime.
