Uno Minda has introduced a new range of projector headlights aimed at the growing market of 7-seater multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) in India. The launch marks a clear shift in aftermarket product development towards safety-oriented components, particularly in lighting, which continues to be a critical concern for drivers navigating poor visibility and unpredictable road conditions.

The MPV segment has witnessed steady demand in the Indian market, with vehicles often used for family travel or shared mobility purposes. However, many such vehicles on the road today rely on basic factory-fitted lighting systems that often do not meet current expectations of night-time safety. Aftermarket upgrades are common, but a majority of third-party options offer limited improvement and frequently fall short of safety standards.

Responding to this gap, Uno Minda has developed projector headlights that incorporate Japanese optics technology. The headlights come with a fully hard-coated lens that is both shatterproof and resistant to yellowing, a common issue in plastic-lens headlights exposed to heat and environmental wear. The integrated projector beam aims to provide sharper, focused illumination to assist drivers in both night driving and adverse weather.

Anand Kumar, Head of Product and Strategy – Aftermarket, Uno Minda, noted that the objective was to enhance visibility without compromising on style. With MPVs often carrying larger groups of passengers, the focus on safety becomes even more pronounced. He pointed out that the new product has been designed with rust-free silicon-coated reflectors to maintain light performance over time, a feature typically lacking in lower-end aftermarket products.
