India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd. has marked a major milestone in its manufacturing journey, celebrating 10 years of operations at its Chennai factory and the roll-out of its 5 millionth two-wheeler—a performance-packed Aerox 155 Version S. The dual achievement underlines the facility’s critical role as a production powerhouse for both Indian and global markets.

Commissioned in 2014, the Chennai plant has evolved into a strategic export and domestic manufacturing hub for Yamaha, currently producing key models such as the RayZR 125 Fi Hybrid, Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid, and the Aerox 155. It also supports global demand for the FZ series, Saluto range, and Alpha scooters, with over 30% of its output exported to markets in Europe, Latin America, and ASEAN.

Speaking at the event, Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies, said, “The Chennai factory is one of Yamaha’s most advanced manufacturing facilities globally. It reflects our deep focus on quality, innovation, and efficiency. This milestone would not have been possible without the dedication of our employees, vendor partners, and loyal customers. As we move forward, this plant will continue to play a key role in Yamaha’s premium product strategy for both Indian and overseas markets.”

Spread across 177 acres—109 acres for IYM operations and 68 acres for co-located vendor partners—the facility runs on a unique integrated ‘One Factory’ model. This approach enables synchronized operations, streamlining production and enhancing supply chain efficiency.

Designed with the future in mind, the Chennai factory incorporates solar power generation with an installed capacity of 4,450 kW and advanced systems for water recycling and zero discharge. Natural lighting, centralised utilities, and sustainable infrastructure reflect Yamaha’s long-term commitment to eco-friendly manufacturing.

As Yamaha commemorates a decade of operations and a 5-million-unit milestone at its Chennai plant, the achievement stands as a strong endorsement of the brand’s Make in India commitment, its expanding global footprint, and its mission to deliver premium, high-performance two-wheelers to customers worldwide.
