ZF Group marked a significant milestone in its India growth journey with the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Spread across 10,000 square metres, the newly launched off-highway facility represents an investment of €20 million (INR 192 crore). It is designed to serve India’s fast-growing construction equipment segment and address rising global demand for high-performance driveline and transmission systems.

The plant will manufacture the ERGOPOWER M automatic transmission and MULTITRAC axle series for the construction sector, both known for their high efficiency and durability. The ERGOPOWER M transmission, optimized for various construction machinery, offers up to 15% fuel savings. Meanwhile, the robust yet compact MULTITRAC axles cater to heavy-duty applications with a modular design offering multiple configurations.

Additionally, the Coimbatore facility will produce the EcoMet transmission for India’s metro rail market. This modular gearbox offers enhanced performance, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, and supports ZF’s localisation strategy in the railway segment, which already has a strong presence across Europe, North America, and China.

The Coimbatore plant aligns with ZF’s broader vision of sustainable growth, localisation, and partnership with customers in emerging markets. With this facility, ZF deepens its roots in India while boosting its capacity to deliver advanced, locally manufactured solutions to both Indian and global OEMs in the off-highway and rail sectors.

Dr Peter Laier, Member of the Board of Management, ZF Group, and Head of Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Industrial Technology, noted, “India is a strategic growth market for ZF. This facility strengthens our global strategy of growing closer to customers, while harnessing India’s robust engineering and manufacturing capabilities.”

Akash Passey, President, ZF Group India, said, “This plant positions India as a manufacturing and innovation hub for both domestic and international markets. With our ‘Make in India’ strategy, we are enabling high-quality localised production that meets world-class standards.”

Andreas Moser, EVP Industrial Technologies, ZF Group, added, “With India’s rapid urbanisation and infrastructure push, the industrialisation of these technologies at Coimbatore will support both domestic growth and global export needs.”
