ZF India Pvt. Ltd. has entered into a strategic business partnership with one of India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers to supply several thousand units of its manual and automated manual (AMT) 9-speed transmissions in the 1300Nm torque segment. The agreement marks a significant step in ZF’s growing presence in India’s high-torque commercial vehicle market.

Designed to enhance vehicle efficiency, performance, and reliability, these transmissions reflect the rising demand for robust drivetrain solutions in the heavy-duty segment.

The transmissions will be manufactured at ZF’s state-of-the-art facility in Chakan, Pune, underscoring the company's commitment to localised production and its role in supporting India’s evolving commercial vehicle landscape.

Akash Passey, President, ZF Group India, said, “This partnership reinforces our commitment to providing cutting-edge transmission solutions tailored to meet the performance and efficiency demands of our OEM partners.”

Highlighting the growing trend toward higher torque applications, P Kaniappan, Sr. Vice President, ZF Group, added, “The EcoMid and EcoTronic Mid transmissions are key enablers for operational efficiency in the heavy truck segment. This agreement strengthens ZF’s leadership as a premier commercial vehicle solutions provider and reflects the market's shift towards high-efficiency, high-tonnage vehicles.”

With EcoMid offering 9-speed configurations in both direct-drive and overdrive variants, the system is well-suited for trucks with gross vehicle weight up to 55 tonnes. Its modular platform enables broad compatibility across CV applications, helping reduce driver fatigue, maximise fuel efficiency, and extend clutch life—delivering tangible value to fleet operators.

ZF India’s current portfolio includes 9-speed transmissions rated up to 1500 Nm and 12-speed models handling up to 3200 Nm, with further development planned for high-horsepower applications exceeding 300 HP. These capabilities position ZF as a strong contender in the competitive CV drivetrain market.
