ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) has unveiled its new SUMS Service Suite—a modular, comprehensive toolkit aimed at supporting trailer manufacturers in achieving compliance with the United Nations Regulation R156.
Dr Peter Bruns, Trailer Launch Application Engineer and SUMS Expert at ZF, said, “As vehicles become smarter and more connected, software compliance and update management are critical. With the launch of our SUMS Service Suite, we’re not just offering regulatory support—we’re equipping OEMs with a future-ready framework for secure, efficient software management.”
ZF’s five-part SUMS Service Suite includes the ISO 24089-certified SCALAR SUMS SaaS platform for managing, recording, and verifying software/hardware versions. It ensures regulatory traceability, supports certification renewals, and addresses the cybersecurity requirements embedded in UN/ECE R156. The suite also offers consulting services, user training via the SCALAR platform, and a set of guidelines, checklists, and templates to simplify regulatory implementation.
The package is rounded off with a portfolio of SUMS-ready technologies including ZF’s TEBS-E7 and iEBS braking systems, OptiTire TPMS, and the SmartBoard control panel—ensuring trailer manufacturers have access to compliant, future-proof hardware and software combinations.
With ZF CVS becoming the first Tier-1 supplier in the commercial vehicle space to receive ISO 24089 certification, the company reinforces its leadership in regulatory compliance and automotive software engineering. “This certification confirms our SUMS solution is fully aligned with R156, and sets a new industry benchmark,” said Dr Bruns.
ZF’s unified approach to software update engineering positions it strongly to expand its certified SUMS offerings beyond trailers to trucks and buses in the near future, helping OEMs navigate the complex terrain of software lifecycle management with confidence and clarity.
