Full-service carrier Vistara, part of Air India, has inducted its first Airbus A321 LR (Long Range) jetliner, becoming the first Indian carrier to induct the type into service.
Leased from the global aircraft lessor, Air Lease Corporation (ALC), the A321LR can operate on long-haul routes previously not accessible to the current generation of single-aisle jetliners such as the A320neo or Boeing’s 737 MAX family.
Vistara entered into long-term lease agreements with ALC in November 2018 for nine Airbus A320-200neo and six Airbus A321-200neo aircraft.
Deliveries of the A321neos were originally to have taken place, starting in the first quarter of 2020 through 2021.
Vistara’s A321neos are powered by CFM56 LEAP-1A32 engines. The A321LR is the long-range variant of Airbus’s A320neo family and can fly up to 7,400 km with 206 passengers. The extra range is made possible due to the incorporation of three additional centre tanks.
The A321LR made its maiden flight in January 2018, powered by two CFM International LEAP-1A engines.
