Valeo, a leading global automotive technology provider, marked a significant milestone with the official opening of its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Daegu, Korea.

The new facility, a result of a $56 million investment agreement signed with the Daegu Metropolitan Government in July 2022, underscores Valeo's commitment to mass-produce Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) components. Construction of the greenfield plant commenced in March 2023, with operations slated to begin in early 2025.

Initially focusing on the production of parking assistant sensors, the Valeo Daegu plant is poised to become a pivotal hub for manufacturing autonomous driving sensors in Asia. Key components such as ultrasound sensors, radars, cameras, and LiDARs will be mass-produced to cater to the burgeoning demand for ADAS and security systems, both locally and globally.

Marc Vrecko, President, Valeo Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems Business Group, emphasised the company's leadership in ADAS technology, with one in three cars worldwide equipped with Valeo systems. He expressed optimism in initiating production at the Daegu plant, citing the region's skilled workforce and robust automotive industry infrastructure.

Valeo's presence in South Korea dates back to 1999, with the establishment of multiple R&D centres and production facilities. The creation of the South Korea Regional Operation in 2015 further solidified Valeo's position as a key partner for ADAS development, following a decade of collaboration with Korean automakers.
