Beyond this, there will be the refreshed Hector to look forward to.

MG4 EV

MG Motor India will showcase its global hybrid and electric vehicle models at the Delhi Auto Expo beginning January 11.

A teaser hints that the showstopper will be its MG4 EV which is 4,287 mm long and 1504 mm high. It is likely to be priced higher than the ZS EV as it is based on its parent’s (SAIC) battery electric modular scalable platform.

MG has positioned it as a hatchback which is already on the roads in several European markets competing with the likes of VW ID3 etc. EVs in these markets have two range options: a 218 mile standard model and a 281 mile claimed range.

The long range model comes with the option of a 51 kWh or 64 kWh battery pack and it is likely that both variants may come to India. The vehicle is powered by either a 125KW motor producing 170 hp or 150KW generating 203 hp.

The EV also has a 7' full digital driver information display and an iSmart featured 10.25' floating colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and e-call system. There are 5 driving modes (eco, sport, snow, custom, standard) along with a leather steering wheel and climate control.

On the safety front, the EV gets an intelligent speed limit assist with traffic sign recognition, driver attention assist, lane keep assist system,l lane departure warning system, rear parking sensors etc.

MG Motor is also likely to showcase its Air EV at the Expo. Based on the Wuling Mini EV, it is powered by a 20 kW power single magnetic synchronised motor sending 27 hp to the rear wheels while generating 85 Nm of torque. With options for a 9.2kWh and 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery packs, the micro e-hatch covers 120 km and 170 km on a single charge respectively.

MG Motor India made its debut at Auto Expo 2018 with its first product, the Hector which was launched a year later and has now crossed the 100,000th production mark. This time around, it will launch the refreshed Hector at the Expo which has not deviated too much from the original design but will have some tweaks to look different.

New MG Hector

The Hector now features an Argyle-inspired diamond mesh grille upfront with some chrome bits added to the bumper, while the rear sees the addition of a light strip. The side profile remains unchanged with similar 18 inch diamond cut alloy wheels as the ongoing model.

The refreshed Hector will have ADAS level 2 features and MG will now have this (ADAS) across its portfolio. The company has added a host of features including lane keep assist, lane departure prevention/warning, blind spot detection, lane change assist. rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control etc.

The Hector also gets the traffic jam assist which, says a company spokesperson, has been jointly developed with Bosch and extensively tested in India. It is an advanced driver assistance system that continuously measures the speed of the surrounding vehicles when adaptive cruise control is switched on.

With this switched on, the car automatically follows the vehicle in front. It accelerates and brakes all by itself, at all speeds below 60 km/h to a standstill. Additionally, the technology continuously keeps the distance set to the vehicle in front. An automatic turn signal indicator has also been added.

The new Hector gets a 14” portrait style touchscreen system with more than 75 connected features and multi language turn by turn voice guidance.  It also gets a 4-way power passenger seat with front row ventilation,  automatic powered tailgate,  HD 360 camera view,  walk away lock/approach unlock etc.
