In a significant move towards advancing electric mobility in India, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), has selected Valeo, a global leader in mobility electrification technologies, to provide the electric powertrain for its 'Born Electric' passenger vehicle platform. Additionally, Valeo will supply the on-board charger for M&M's electric utility vehicles. The substantial deal, worth nearly $1 billion, was reflected in Valeo's third-quarter financial results.
Mahindra & Mahindra, with its new electric vehicle platform 'Born Electric,' aims to spearhead the electric mobility revolution in India. Leveraging its strategic pillars of brand, design, and technology, the company is set to offer a comprehensive range of electric SUVs.
Valeo, a frontrunner in electrification technologies, will invest in localising the production of the electric powertrain in Pune, Maharashtra, near Mahindra's plant. The localised production will encompass the electric motor, inverter, gearbox, and the integrated 3-in-1 bi-directional Combo power electronics, combining the on-board charger (OBC), DC-DC converter, and power distribution unit (PDU).
Xavier Dupont, President of Valeo's Powertrain Systems Sector, said, highlighted that Valeo's locally developed and produced solutions would enable Mahindra & Mahindra to provide Indian customers with electric vehicles featuring higher voltage and increased autonomy. The collaboration signifies a significant stride for Valeo in the Indian electric vehicle market.
