German luxury carmaker BMW India launched its second EV offering in India, the i4 at INR 69.9 lakh, ex-showroom, India, for the eDrive40 Sport variant.

Sold as a CBU unit, the vehicle is based on the CLAR architecture and comes with the 83.9 kWh battery pack and a rear axle-mounted electric motor that produces 340hp and 430Nm. With this setup, the company claims a range of 590 kms and a 0-100kph run in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 190 kmph.

Charging options provided with the vehicle include a wall box charger rated at 11kW, capable of charging the EV from empty to full in 8.5 hours. Additionally, it also gets regenerative braking that can top up the battery at rates of up to 116kW, the company said.

Other fast charging options include a 50 kW DC charger capable of juicing the battery from 10% to 80% in 83 mins and a 205 kW DC charger option capable of providing a similar amount of charge in 31 mins.

Available in Mineral White, Black Sapphire and Skyscraper Grey, the exterior styling of the sedan is very much identical to its ICE counterpart with some EV specific changes, including a blanked-out grille and few aerodynamic changes.

It comes with 17-inch aerodynamically optimised wheels, however, customers can move up to 18-inch or 19-inch wheels with the M Aerodynamic Kit, which also includes M aerodynamic bumpers, among others.

The electric sedan's features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the company’s latest iDrive 8 user interface and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. In addition, the system is capable of receiving OTA updates as well.

Besides, it also gets three-zone automatic climate control, LED ambient lighting, a sunroof, reverse parking assist with a camera, and a 17-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system. Some other notable features of the vehicle include rear air suspension and lift-related dampers.

Currently available for booking, the deliveries for i4 are expected to start from July onwards, the company said.

Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India, said, “With the launch of the BMW i4, I am excited to introduce the first electric mid-size sedan in the country.”
