Boeing Looks To Grow India Presence

The air-framer has set a strategic goal to strengthen and leverage its local talent while growing its network of more than 300 supplier partners in India

Boeing, which has a large commercial and defence business in India, is further looking to grow its presence. With Aero India around the corner, the air-framer stated that it focuses on investments in growing local services and capabilities, workforce development and partnerships supporting India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Boeing has set a strategic goal to strengthen and leverage its local talent while growing its network of more than 300 supplier partners in India. Salil Gupte, President, Boeing India, said, “The Indian aerospace and defence industry is poised for growth and offers significant opportunities for Boeing with our proven portfolio of products and services.” Boeing was committed to supporting and enabling this progress with a vision to bring the best to India, he added.

Boeing’s exhibit at Aero India will feature scale models of products from the company’s defence portfolio, such as the F/A-18 Super Hornet, P-8I, CH-47 Chinook, 737, 787 Dreamliner and 777X. Also on display is a simulator of the AH-64 attack helicopter, 22 of which are in service with the Indian Air Force and six more on order with the Indian Army. 

Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL), a joint venture between Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems, recently delivered the first fuselage for six AH-64 Apache’s on order with the Indian Army.

TBAL is a global sole source supplier for Apache fuselages to Boeing, and these are manufactured at its state-of-the-art facility in Hyderabad and then supplied to Boeing’s Apache final assembly plant in Mesa, Arizona. Till date, TBAL has delivered over 190 fuselages.

Boeing’s India Repair Development and Sustainment (BIRDS) programme is an initiative by the company to grow the local Maintenance, Repair And Overhaul (MRO) ecosystem for its products in India. 

The air-framer has delivered 11 C-17 strategic airlifters, 22 AH-64 Apaches attack helicopters (with six more on order), 15 CH-47 Chinook utility helicopters, 12 P-8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft, three VVIP B737 aircraft, and two Head of State B777 aircraft to the Indian armed forces.

Over 150 commercial jetliners are in service in India, including 737 NG, 737 MAX, 757, 777, and 787 Dreamliner.
