BYD India, the subsidiary of Warren Buffett-backed EV maker BYD, has announced that its e6 MPV will be powered by BYD Blade Battery.

Launched in 2020, the battery pack claims to have passed the nail penetration test with no smoke or fire after being penetrated. Its surface temperature only reaches 30 to 60°C, a press release from the company said.

Moreover, it has also passed other extreme test conditions, including being crushed, bent, heated in a furnace to 300°C and overcharged by 260%, the release added.

Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Head, Electric Passenger Vehicle, BYD India, said, “We give battery safety the highest priority when it comes to our EVs. We are keen on bringing many more variants apart from the e6 when we start serving India’s B2C segment equipped with blade battery technology.”

Furthermore, the company also plans to provide this battery to other leading OEMs globally, the release added.

The company claims that the battery pack increases space utilisation by 50% compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate block batteries. This leads to significant improvements in energy efficiency and range, it added.
