The German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall for around 993,407 vehicles globally due to a fault with the braking system.

Built between 2004 and 2015, these vehicles include the ML-Class, GL-Class and the R-Class, the company noted.

Through an official statement, the carmaker noted that in rare cases of very severe corrosion, it might be possible for a particularly strong or hard braking manoeuvre to cause mechanical damage to the brake booster, whereby the connection between the brake pedal and brake system would fail.

“In such a very rare case, it would not be possible to decelerate the vehicle via the service brake. Thus the risk of a crash or injury would be increased.”

The recall process would include inspecting the faulty vehicles and replacing the necessary parts, the statement added. The company has said that the recall will start with immediate effect; till then, it has requested its customers not to drive their vehicles.
