Electric two-wheeler startup, Ather Energy took to its Twitter handle yesterday to inform about a fire incident at its experience showroom in Chennai. The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained. 

The tweet read, 'Before you hear it from others, there has been a minor fire incident at our premises in Chennai. While some property and scooters got affected, thankfully all employees are safe and things are under control. The experience centre will be operational shortly. No one was harmed during the incident. The cause of the fire, whether it was an electric scooter or something else, is yet to be ascertained.” 

There’s been a spate of fire incidents related to electric scooters i in different parts of the country in the past few months. Electric scooters from Okinawa, Ola Electric, Jeetendra EV and many other brands have been involved in at least one EV fire incident lately. However, Ather has not reported any fire incidents involving end-consumers so far. 

Ather Energy had raised $128 million led by National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), the Indian government’s sovereign wealth fund, and existing investor Hero MotoCorp early this year. Hero Motocorp, one of India's leading two-wheeler OEMs, is a leading investor in Ather Energy. 

The company had registered its highest ever monthly sales in April 2022 delivering 3,779 units to customers. The company has 38 experience centers located in 32 cities in India.
