Honda Motor’s new subsidiary for battery sharing service, Honda Power Pack Energy India, announced its partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) to collaborate in E-mobility and provide battery sharing services in the oil company’s retail outlets in major cities across India. 

According to the press release from Honda, the online signing off ceremony was held on February 7, 2022, where both companies reaffirmed their commitment towards carbon neutrality and joined hands to achieve a greener future for India and the world by way of expanding the utilisation of renewable energy and to actively pursue electrification of the transportation sector.

Honda plans to start its Battery as a Service (BaaS) business on a commercial basis from Bengaluru city in the first half of 2022 by setting up a network of battery swap stations at strategic locations like HPCL’s retail outlets, the release noted.

Initially, the focus will be on the three-wheeler segment and would eventually expand to two-wheelers as well. For this purpose, Honda has been developing its ties with multiple OEMs in various applications.

Kiyoshi Ito, President & CMD, Honda Power Pack Energy India, said that the company is looking forward to a long-lasting partnership and friendship between Honda and HPCL to bring the reliable & customer-centric battery sharing service in India.

Rajnish Mehta, Executive Director, Corporate Strategy Planning & Business Development, HPCL, said that the company is committed to becoming a net-zero company by 2040, and the partnerships with global players like Honda will be instrumental in achieving this target.
