Known for its advanced automation solutions in industrial settings, the acquisition is set to be finalised by the third quarter of 2024, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

Lear Corporation, a prominent leader in automotive technology specialising in Seating and E-Systems, declared its definitive agreement to acquire WIP Industrial Automation, a top-tier systems integrator from Spain.

WIP Industrial Automation, with 25 years in the business and a history as a supplier to Lear, is renowned for its expertise in robotics and AI-based computer vision technologies. These competencies are crucial for enhancing safety, quality, and efficiency within manufacturing processes. The integration of WIP is expected to fortify Lear’s operational efficiency, especially amidst challenges like rising wage inflation.

This acquisition marks another strategic step by Lear to expand its global automation and digital prowess. It follows previous successful integrations with ASI Automation, Thagora Technology SRL, and InTouch Automation. The combined expertise of these entities provides Lear with a comprehensive portfolio of automation solutions that span critical aspects of manufacturing and bolster the development of pioneering automation technologies.

Ray Scott, President and CEO of Lear, said, 'WIP brings valuable manufacturing engineering capabilities that are essential to advancing innovative automation solutions across our global operations. This acquisition supports Lear’s long-term strategy to strengthen our market leadership through operational excellence. We are thrilled to welcome the WIP team to the Lear family.'

Ángel Rodríguez Fernández, CEO and co-owner of WIP, said this transaction gives WIP a unique opportunity to become part of a world-class automotive company, marrying WIP’s expertise in robotics and AI technologies with Lear’s industry-leading knowledge in product design, engineering, and manufacturing processes.

The acquisition of WIP Industrial Automation is poised to significantly enhance Lear’s manufacturing efficiency and innovation capacity, further cementing its position as a leader in the automotive technology industry. This strategic move not only expands Lear’s automation capabilities but also aligns with its goal of achieving operational excellence and maintaining market leadership.
